Provisioning refers to the process of setting up and configuring desk phones or softphones, to enable them to work on a particular communication network or service. It involves configuring various settings and parameters to ensure that the phones are properly connected, registered, and ready for use within a specific communication network or service. The provisioning process can vary depending on the type of phone and the communication system being used. 

Each phone needs to be associated with a specific user or extension within the phone system. User configuration involves assigning phone numbers, extensions, and other user-specific settings to the phones. Phones may have various features and functionalities that must be configured based on user requirements. This can include setting up voicemail, call forwarding, call waiting, speed dialing, and other call management features.

Hard phones need to be registered with the phone system or service provider to establish their identity and enable communication. This involves providing unique identification information of the phone, such as MAC address or device ID, to the system or service for authentication.
