Introduction

LiveVox provides you with the necessary tools to obtain maximum efficiency from the LiveVox platform. This document describes the features and functionality of the LiveVox Communicator (LVC) 3.15 tool and explains how to use it.

Prerequisites

To be able to use LVC 3.15, you must be an existing NA3, NA4, or NA5 customer.

System Requirements

For a smooth LVC experience, your system must have the following minimal configuration:

  • Processor: Pentium III 1GH
  • Memory: 512 MB RAM for Windows® 2000 and XP, 2 GB for Vista/ 7+/8/10
  • Operating systems: Windows® 2000, XP and later up to 10
  • Sound card: Onboard audio (16-bit sound card) with a headphone jack
  • Internet connectivity
  • Headset: USB headset (recommended vendors: Plantronics, Logitech)

Because terminal services with thin clients require separate requirements, let your Implementation Manager/Account Team know if you are using thin clients.

Installation

The LVC URL to be downloaded and the logon credentials are provided by the LiveVox VoIP Implementation Team depending on your settings. To install LVC:

  1. Save the installation file locally.
  2. Run the installation file.

Unless an issue arises, do not modify the default values for installation.

When the installation is complete, run LVC.

    • When the program is run for the first time, if prompted, allow your firewall to unblock LVC. To function properly, LVC needs full access to your system.
    • For installation switches, contact the LiveVox VoIP Implementation Team or the LiveVox Customer Care Team.

Getting Started

Overview

LVC is designed to integrate seamlessly with the LiveVox communication platform and virtually eliminate configuration and technical competency requirements. LiveVox assumes all responsibility for the configuration, due to which the settings are hard-coded. This guarantees interoperability with the LiveVox VoIP platform and eliminates accidental changes that could cause your phone to stop working.

Starting LVC

When LVC is started, you are prompted to specify your logon credentials, which are provided by LiveVox. These credentials are required to fetch the configuration specific to you from LiveVox.

LVC is automatically configured after the
authentication is complete.

Disabling LVC Auto Logon

When logging on to LVC, if you had selected the Remember my username and password or Log me automatically checkbox but would now like to disable it, perform the following steps:

  1. Exit LVC.
    Exit LVC
  2. Ensure that hidden files and folders are displayed:
    1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Show hidden files and folders.
    2. Select the Show hidden files, folders, and drives option.
    3. Clear the Hide extensions for known file types and Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) options.
    4. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  3. Access the Run app, and then open the Appdata folder.

  4. Go to Roaming > LiveVox-Communicator, and then delete the Config xml file.
    Delete Config File
  5. Restart LVC.

Installing TLS Certificate

LVC supports secure communication using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) over Transport Layer Security (TLS) and encrypted Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP). To enable this feature, you need to install the appropriate TLS certificate file provided to you by the LiveVox Technical Team. To do so, create a folder named tls on the C drive, and then copy the certificate file to the new folder.
Copy TLS Certificate

The locked green padlock shown below indicates that the communication is secure.

Using LVC

After the authentication and configuration are complete, your phone is ready to place calls to the LiveVox platform.
Place Calls
Among the options available on LVC are a dialpad (Dialpad) for dialing into LiveVox, the History tab to view the recently dialed numbers, and the Calls tab to display the current call.

The Settings menu contains the Preferences and Audio wizard options.

Audio Wizard

The Audio Wizard is an automated audio set-up tool that configures and tests your speakers and microphone settings. To use this tool, in the Audio wizard window, select the correct device from the displayed list of devices, click Start the test, and then follow the instructions that appear in the window. After you complete the configuration and testing, click OK to save the settings.

Preferences Menu Options

The Preferences window enables you to change the audio devices and general options. LiveVox has disabled any option involving connection to the platform, which automatically updates as LiveVox updates your settings. You can, however, update the audio devices if you need to change headsets, microphones, and sound cards. You can also change the way LVC behaves on a local machine.
Preferences Window

  • SIP, IAX, and XMPP Accounts: Out of the three options, only SIP is relevant and supported. However, all options are disabled to minimize any typographical errors that could occur when specifying the account information. All accounts are configured remotely and locked, allowing LiveVox full provisioning control over the softphone.
  • Audio Devices: Can be modified to reflect your audio requirements. From the menu, change audio devices, and enable/disable echo cancellation.
  • General Options: Enable you to change how LVC behaves. The following options are available:
    • Start Minimized
    • Minimize to tray
    • Minimize on close
    • Start LiveVox Communicator when you log in
    • Always on top
    • Show tip of the day (currently disabled)
    • Check for updates automatically
  • Popup Notifications: Enables you to customize what notifications you would like to receive. For example, you can enable/disable a system tray popup when you lose the Internet connection or if an audio device is disconnected.

Exiting LVC

To exit LVC, you can perform one of the following steps:

  • On the LVC menu bar, go to Settings > Exit.
  • On your keyboard, press Alt + F4

Help

Diagnostics

The Diagnostics options appear when you go to Settings > Preferences > Advanced > Diagnostic. These options enable you to create a debug log file that contains essential information about LVC actions and behavior in case of bugs and crashes. The debug log file is stored in the LVC installation folder (for example, C:\Program Files\LiveVox Communicator).
Diagnostic Tab

Help Menu

LVC Help menu enables you to:

  • Check for a new version (currently disabled).
  • Download the Quick Start manual (currently disabled).
  • Visit our website (only available for some versions of LVC).
  • Show log dialog.
  • Enable debug log.
  • Report a problem.
  • Learn about LVC.

Report a Problem

This option enables you to easily report a problem that you may have experienced while using LVC. Clicking this option displays the default mail client ready to send a report email to customercare@livevox.com. When sending an email to the LiveVox Customer Care Team, ensure that you provide a brief description of your actions before the problem occurred.

You must first report any issues to your local IT department.
